What is Tank Blanketing?
Tank blanketing systems are designed to:
-
Prevent the escape of volatile liquid vapors into the atmosphere
-
Protect stored contents from contamination by preventing moisture or air ingress
A tank blanketing valve maintains a consistent layer of inert gas—typically nitrogen or carbon dioxide—in the vapor space of a sealed liquid storage tank. This protective blanket minimizes oxidation, contamination, and product evaporation.
The Shand & Jurs 94270 “VAPOR GUARD” precisely regulates this gas flow. When the tank’s internal pressure drops below a preset level, the valve opens to introduce inert gas, compensating for pressure changes caused by temperature drops or pump-outs—without allowing air to enter. When pressure rises above the set point (due to thermal expansion or filling), the valve shuts off. Excess pressure is vented via a separate breather valve.
A key advantage of the VAPOR GUARD system is its simplicity: a single valve efficiently handles precise pressure regulation, replacing the need for multiple regulators in traditional setups.
How It Works
The compact, lightweight design of the 94270 VAPOR GUARD allows for direct tank mounting, minimizing connection points and reducing potential leak paths.
Key operating features include:
-
Balanced piston-operated main valve, ensuring the set pressure remains stable across varying inlet pressures
-
Modulating valve action that opens and closes gradually, maintaining accurate pressure and gas flow
-
Reliable operation with simplified mechanics, reducing both wear and maintenance costs
-
The valve remains closed when tank pressure is at or above the set point; it opens proportionally when pressure drops, maintaining ideal blanket conditions
Available with threaded or flanged connections (welded or threaded-on), the 94270 offers flexibility for diverse installation needs.
